Avid fans of my action adventure novel series have offered a variety of reasons for why they like my latest novel "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan". In case you have have not read it yet, here are the 5 top reasons readers recommend this book, listed in no particular order.

1. 2012. This novel is set in the year 2012, and has as a backdrop the 2012 phenomenon regarding the Mayan calendar and the Mayan Prophecies. If you are curious about what 2012 is all about, this novel is a MUST READ!

2. Mexico. The setting for this movie is the Yucatan of Mexico. For readers who do not know the Yucatan, this book is a chance to get a feel for this area (where I lived for a year and a half while writing the book). For readers who already know the Yucatan, the book offers glimpses of places they are familiar with from their visits or from living there.

3. Intelligent female characters. Contrary to the genre of action adventure novels in general, this novel features intelligent, action-oriented female characters who often out-think the men. Two new female characters are introduced in this novel, who interact with two strong, established female characters already active in this novel series. The two new female characters have been well-received, although unfortunately, only one of them will be returning in future novels.

4. Well-researched. Little known facts about the Mayan calendar, other calendars worldwide, the Mayan Prophecies, other ancient cultures of Mexico, the Cold War space program, the CIA in Europe, archaeological observatories, the threat to Earth from comets and meteors past and present and...whew, the international antiquities black market funding of terrorist groups: it's all here.

5. Good Clean Reading. In an age when everything we read seems to be taken to the lowest level possible, the plot and characters of this novel and the others in The Martin Culver Series are driven by the values of friendship, family, doing the right thing, and the good guys still win. Mostly.

So if you have not read "The Lost Calendar of the Maya" yet, get it on Kindle or Nook today! Amazon Kindle sells more Martin Culver action adventure novels than Barnes and Noble Nook again this month, by a margin of 45 to 1!

So I am curious. Why is that true? Are Kindle owners more inclined to read adventure? Are Nook owners just not interested in exciting, well-written stories? Does the share feature on Nook extend so far that one Nook sale gets passed around 40 to 50 times?

It is hard to understand. If you have not read "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan", go to Amazon.com today and get it. Last week we traveled to Chichen-Itza and stayed at the Hacienda Chichen, the actual hacienda mentioned in "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan". This hacienda is right next to the Chichen-Itza archaeological zone, so close that we could see the Caracol observatory from our breakfast table. Our cottage was built by Edward Thompson, a former private owner of the Hacienda Chichen. After checking in we walked approximately 300 meters from our cottage to the back entrance to the Chichen-Itza ruins.

The West Gate of the Chichen-Itza property has a new feature, as Old Chichen, Chichen Viejo, the old city of Chichen, has been discovered to have had walls around it and four stone Mayan Arch gates at each of the cardinal points, north, east, west and south. The West Gate is the only one that has been restored so far. We met our guide and began our tour of places at Chichen-Itza that are mentioned in "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan".

Of course the most impressive site at Chichen-Itza is El Castillo, as it was called by the Spanish, or the Temple of Kukulkan as it was known to the Maya. This is the massive temple in the center of the property that has the famous Equinox snake-shadow which decends the stairs to touch the earth and then re-ascends again. This structure is much more impressive to see in person than you might imagine.

I then could hardly wait to get to the Temple of the High Priest and the Mysterious Round Structure in front of it, as these two ruins represented a pivotal scene in the book. Every detail is just as I had described it, the right distances, angles, etc. It gave me an eerie feeling to be standing in one of the most exciting scenes of "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan", as if the characters would come running down the steps of the pyramid at any moment!
Many readers are curious about 2012, but do not want to be disappointed by a book that insults their intelligence or disappoints with wild speculation. And there are plenty of those books out there.

Let me assure you that "The Lost Calendar of the Maya - the Return of Kukulkan" is not like those other books about 2012.

This novel is well researched; the plot lines have been developed from established facts and events that lend themselves, when combined, to an excellent fast-moving story that may challenge your current understandings of events related to everything from the Mayan 2012 prophecies, to archaeology, astronomy, international relations and even to the the future of earth. I promise that if you are looking for an insightful action adventure, this book will not disappoint you.

Instead of relying on the December 21, 2012 Mayan Calendar countdown controversy as its main impetus, "The Lost Calendar of the Maya - the Return of Kukulkan" focuses on the Mayan Prophecies of Chilam Balam of Chumayel. These prophecies accurately predicted the arrival of the Spanish in the New World, but also have many cryptic and enigmatic messages regarding the future return of the Mayan god Kukulkan.

If you are considering reading "The Lost Calendar of the Maya - the Return of Kukulkan" I would encourage you that you are making a wise choice. I am not just saying this to sell books. This story is well within the realm of possibility, and daily events world wide confirm its plotline.

Prepare to be thrilled and excited as you follow Martin Culver, John Robert Chartwell and the other characters you have come to enjoy from the Martin Culver Series in this exciting Mayan Adventure.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4643989453918669513.post-69929592477536716682012-04-30T16:49:00.002-07:002012-04-30T16:50:40.581-07:00The Story Behind the Video Trailer, Part 3.

"Exciting video! Awesome trailer!" This is the third in a series of updates that will explain how the slides in the video trailer of "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan" are connected to the story line. Subscribe to this blog or follow it and you will get each background story as it is published.
The video trailer link appears below in case you have not yet seen it.
Notice how grown over the pyramid is, and how the Kukulkan serpent heads are scattered on the ground around the ruins. No one at that time knew anything was inside this ruined Mayan temple.

The next slide is a common representation of a ""Mayan Calendar" but is in fact only a representation of the Mayan time carrier in the center, carrying the glyph "Ahau", and showing glyphs around the edge that were used for counting time.

This is a relatively recent commercial design and does not date from the ancient Maya history. The design is fairly popular and can be found on everything from T-shirts to ash trays.

These two slides show representations of the Mayas that are somewhat famous, and yet do not truly represent the Maya, but are impressions of others of what they found.

What do we really need to know about the Maya and their culture that is authentic to their prophecies, their designs, and to their achievements? Read the new fiction novel "The Lost Calendar of the Maya" to find out.
"Exciting video! Awesome trailer! What is that picture? What is that song? How does it connect with your new book?"

I am posting an update on this blog every day that will explain how the slides for the video trailer of "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: The Return of Kukulkan" are connected to the story line. If you want to catch the whole story, subscribe to this blog or follow it and you will get each background story as it is published.

Here is the second set of slides for the video background update. The video trailer link appears below if you have not yet seen it.

This image shows the Feathered Serpent Kukulkan, revered by the Maya as the god who could fly and who would one day return to Earth to begin a New Age. Notice the feathers carved onto the body of the serpent, which could also represent tongues of flame.

The serpent bears the same squared-off head structure of the serpent carvings at the Temple of the High Priest and the Temple of Kukulkan (El Castillo) at Chichen-Itza.

The Second slide shows a feared Maya figure Bolon Yokte' K'uh, who is prophesied to descend to the earth with a serpent on December 21, 2012 at the end of the current B'aktun calendar cycle.

Bolon Yokte' K'uh is considered a mysterious part of the Mayan pantheon of gods and is referred to in the Tortuguero Monument 6 stele which we will see later in the video. This the only Mayan carving that refers to the Julian calendar date of December 21, 2012, and says simply "...it will happen...he (it) will descend...". It is said that when he returns with the serpent, he will represent the Nine Gods of the Mayan Underworld.

The last slide is a representation of Kukulkan as a serpent which has devoured a man or from which a man's head is protruding. This combination serpent-human image has potential significance to the form in which Kukulkan will return in 2012.

Which of the forms will Kukulkan will take, assuming that Kukulkan returns to Earth in 2012 as the Mayans prophesied?

"Exciting video! Awesome trailer! What is that picture? What is that song? How does it connect with your new book?"
These are some of the comments that are pouring in about the new video trailer for "The Lost Calendar of the Maya: the Return of Kukulkan", the latest fiction novel from Malcom Masssey in the Martin Culver action adventure series.
Of course 2012 is an important year. The Mayan Long Count numerical Calendar is set to expire on December 21, 2012. Will we really see the end of the world? If so we don't have long to get ready. Many, many important events will also happen in 2012. Each time we do an update we will provide another fact about 2012 that may also be a part of "The Lost Calendar of the Maya", so be sure to follow the site and get updates as they occur.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
